All vehicle rentals are governed by a comprehensive Rental Agreement, which you will receive upon booking confirmation or at the time of vehicle collection. This agreement outlines specific terms, conditions, insurance coverage, fees, and your obligations related to the rental. In case of any discrepancies between these Terms and the Rental Agreement, the Rental Agreement will prevail.
Eligibility Criteria
Requirements for Vehicle Rental
- To hire a vehicle from Car Hire Colne, drivers must be at least 21 years old, although age restrictions may differ based on vehicle type, with possible extra fees for those under 25. A valid driving license, appropriate for the vehicle category, must be held for the duration specified in the Rental Agreement. Valid identification and proof of current address are required, along with payment details and a security deposit. Additional criteria outlined in the Rental Agreement must also be met.
Booking and Payment Process
- Reservations can be made online, via telephone, or at our Colne office. A deposit may be necessary to confirm your booking. The full payment and a security deposit are generally required at the time of vehicle pickup. All prices are listed in British Pounds (£) and include VAT when applicable. We accept major credit and debit cards, processed securely through trusted payment providers.
Vehicle Pickup and Drop-off
- At the time of vehicle collection, it is important to conduct a thorough inspection and report any pre-existing damage without delay. A vehicle condition report will be completed and signed by both parties. The vehicle should be returned in the same condition it was collected, accounting for normal wear and tear. Any new damage will be evaluated and charged accordingly. Ensure that the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level as at collection; refueling charges will apply if it is returned with less fuel. Late returns may result in additional fees, so please contact us as soon as possible if you anticipate a delay. You will be responsible for any parking fines, traffic violations, or charges incurred during your rental, along with an administration fee.
Insurance and Liability Terms
- All rentals come with basic third-party insurance included. For comprehensive coverage details and excess amounts, please refer to the Rental Agreement. You may have the option to purchase additional insurance to lower your financial liability. It is beneficial to review these options thoroughly. You remain liable for any damage or loss up to the excess amount unless additional insurance is obtained. Any damage resulting from negligence, misuse, or violation of these Terms will be your responsibility, regardless of insurance coverage.
6. Modifications and Cancellations
Cancellation and amendment policies depend on the type of booking and the amount of notice given. For precise information, please consult your booking confirmation or Rental Agreement. Be aware that late cancellations or no-shows could incur additional charges.
Prohibited Activities
Prohibited Uses of Your Vehicle
- Use of the vehicle for illegal activities is prohibited. This includes racing, rallying, off-roading, or engaging in any hazardous activities. Transporting dangerous materials is not allowed. Sub-letting the vehicle or permitting unauthorized drivers is prohibited. Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, exceeding passenger or weight limits, and operating outside the agreed geographical boundaries without authorization are also strictly forbidden.
Breach of these terms may lead to rental termination and extra fees.
Liability Limitations
To the fullest extent allowable under English and Welsh law, Car Hire Colne will not be responsible for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, including loss of profits, data, or business, that may result from your use of our services. Our total liability for any claims is limited to the amount you paid for your rental in the previous 12 months. This limitation does not apply to claims related to death or personal injury arising from negligence or fraudulent activities.
9. Legal Framework
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes will be resolved exclusively within the jurisdiction of English and Welsh courts.
